How to run a scan
- Download this tool and open it.
- Select the type of scan you want run and start the scan.
- Review the scan results displayed on screen. For detailed detection results, view the log at %SYSTEMROOT%debugmsert.log.
To remove this tool, delete the executable file (msert.exe by default).

You should never have more than one security product installed on the PC providing active protection/scanning. This can cause performance issues, system instability and conflicts between programs, and can hinder the effectiveness all installed antivirus products.
Microsoft Security Essentials is designed to manage the PC’s real-time protection against malware including viruses, rootkits, spyware and trojans.
No antimalware program will provide 100% protection. The authors of these rogue programs alter the characteristics/signatures on a regular (sometimes daily) basis to help the programs avoid detection.
