The PRE-2015 system doesn't apply to early ESP's, some of which had no serial number tracking system at all and used random numbers. Consider the below a 'guideline'. Thanks for your understanding.-The ESP Guitar Company. PRE-2015 Factory designation by prefix: T - ESP Custom Shop. SS - ESP Standard Factory. Guys can you please help me out, there's a ec1000 being sold in my area for 200$ it looks real only problems is there's a slight crack behind the headstock and it doesn't have the 'inspected in america' sticker, the serial number starts with R, And it says its Korean made but i thought the Korean made one serial started with W not R. In 1995, the LTD series was created to produce ESP's high-quality products at a more affordable price. Soon after the introduction of the Korean and Indonesian-made LTD lines, ESP stopped selling the majority of its Japanese made flagship guitars in the United States, due to the high prices involved in exporting to the Americas. Serial Number Prefixes
Couple of questions that have been circulating here the past couple of week.
1. Are all SS serial numbers from the Standard factory or are any of them from the Kiso custom shop?
2. What is the deal with this KH-2 Vintage having an E serial number? KH-2 Vintage on eBay

And why does my KH-2 neck-thru not have a prefix? I asked this before but didn't get a response. I bought it brand new in 2001.
Edit DeleteReply - Road Kingwrote
They didn't do the prefixes back then. It started in 2003 with the standard series (i.e. SS03). And then they added the signature series in 2005 or 2006. My guess is ESP guitars had to add more shops to keep up with demand.

Thanks Road King. I know at the time I bought it that the neck thru model wasn't a standard run, that you had to custom order it, but I assume it got made in the standard factory and not a custom shop.

Well they didn't have the standard series factory back then. I don't know exactly where they made the guitars, but all the late 90s and early 2000s stuff with the 'Custom Guitars' stamp is pretty much custom shop quality. I can't tell the difference.

And to add to this conundrum, we're all under the impression that since the mid 2000's the first 2 digits were the year made. So why does this guitar have a 17, is it the back to the future guitar, it's been made in the future but is not here in the present yet??

I guess the completed auction should not say no longer available and instead say not available yet.

Dear ESP Customers:
Unfortunately the factories at ESP Japan have not kept a consistent and sensible serial number tracking system in place over the years. This has resulted in alot of confusion, and even with the below system we have been provided by the factories, you may still come across the occasional serial number that may conflict with, or doesn't fall under any of the listed categories. For this we apologize, and we are working to maintain a more consistent system going forward. The PRE-2015 system doesn't apply to early ESP's, some of which had no serial number tracking system at all and used random numbers. Consider the below a 'guideline'. Thanks for your understanding.

Thanks for the info. So to answer our questions, it appears the KH-2 SEs from 2011 with SS serials came from the standard factory and the K serials came from Kiso. The KH-2 Vintage above is a 2015 and was also made at the standard factory.

Typo - The Standard factory is actually 3 not 2.
I've updated the original response

Hmmm.. My KH2 Bolt on have serial K-214** .. It should not be K ??
Edit DeleteReply - ESP Adminwrote
That looks like a secondary K-series number that was used in the early days for all KH products.
However, there should be another serial number in addition to that one that was used.
Edit Delete - ESP 348wrote
Yep, they used the letter K in early KH guitars.
My 1991 KH 'Zorlac' guitar only has numbers as a serial number.
My 1996 KH1 has a serial number that starts with K.
My 2001 KH2 has a serial number that also starts with K.Edit DeleteReply - Big Daddy Bwrote
All yours pap are pre-2003 when they went to the previous gen of serial conventionas was Sephi's 2001 KH-2. The Pre-2015 system mentioned by Tony apparently was actually from 2003-2015.

I have a pre '15 mh-300 and I can't make heads or tails of the number: E038980.
the 'E' part is the most confusing part because when I look at the pre '15 specs, I don't see any factory that has an 'E' associated with it . Any advice would be great
